Sustainability: TRX District ESG Programme for E-Waste & Fabric Recycling

May 8, 2025

Overview

As part of TRX City’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the TRX District ESG Programme introduced the e-waste and fabric recycling initiative. This programme aimed to encourage responsible disposal of electronic waste and fabric materials within the TRX community. Through dedicated recycling bins and awareness campaigns, participants were given the opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable future by reducing landfill waste and minimising carbon emissions.

To facilitate recycling, Adtrec Recycling Bins and Smart Recycling Bins were installed at strategic locations within the district. These bins allowed employees, visitors, and corporate partners to conveniently drop off their unwanted e-waste and fabric materials for proper disposal and recycling. The initiative was run for two weeks, ensuring maximum participation.

Participants and Targets

The programme engaged various stakeholders, including TRX employees, corporate partners, and visitors to the district. The key objective was to promote a culture of responsible waste disposal and encourage active participation in sustainable practices.

Achievements and Outcome

The TRX District ESG Programme successfully diverted 95 kg of e-waste and fabric from landfills, contributing to a total reduction of 572 kg of carbon emissions. The breakdown of the recycled materials is as follows:
• Fabrics: 79.5 kg (556.5 kg CO²e reduction)
• E-Waste: 15.5 kg (15.5 kg CO²e reduction)
The collection process ensured proper recycling and disposal of these materials, preventing hazardous waste from entering the environment. Additionally, fabric recycling contributed to substantial carbon savings by minimising textile waste, which is known for its high environmental footprint. While the participation rate was encouraging, further efforts are needed to enhance engagement and increase the impact of future campaigns.

Through this programme, TRX City successfully encouraged a culture of responsible waste management in its community.

Interesting Facts

Recycling e-waste and fabrics not only helps reduce landfill waste but also significantly lowers carbon emissions. For example, fabric recycling alone contributed to over 556 kg of CO²e reduction during the campaign. Additionally, many electronic components contain hazardous materials, making proper e-waste disposal crucial in preventing environmental contamination. Future initiatives can build on this success by expanding collection points and introducing interactive activities to boost participation.
